What is St. Jude's?

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, located in Memphis, Tennessee, is one of the world's premier centers for research and treatment of catastrophic diseases in children, primarily pediatric cancers.

Mission

The mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our Founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.

About 4,900 patients are seen at St. Jude yearly, most of whom are treated on a continuing outpatient basis as part of ongoing research programs. The hospital also maintains 60 beds for patients requiring hospitalization during treatment.

St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and from more than 70 countries.

Patients at St. Jude are accepted by physician referral when the children or adolescents are newly diagnosed or has a disease under research and treatment by the St. Jude staff.

St. Jude is the only pediatric research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay.

How do I ask for donations?

Thank you to St. Jude Trail Ride - Lodi, WI

Bonus Tips To Help Raise Money for St Jude.

It's Not As Hard or Embarrassing As You Might Think

1. Believe that St. Jude work is worthwhile and important.

2. For many of us it is difficult to ask others for something that will benefit ourselves. These children cannot ask, their families are desperate, they need you to help. We are asking for donations to support St. Jude's critical mission on behalf of these children and their families. Let's put our hearts into it!

3. Remember, many people do not have the time, energy, or interest to actively work for good causes, but they are happy to write a check for others to do so. It makes them feel good - they've done their part. This makes your part necessary.

4. When asked for a contribution, many of us reach into our wallet for five or ten dollars. This is good, but if the same person were asked to write a check, they might write one for $25.00, $50.00, or more. If you have a fair idea of the circumstances of the person you are asking contributions of, by asking for a specific amount ( ie., $25.00, $50.00, $100.00) you will most likely get at least half and frequently the entire amount. If you do not ask, you will never know what someone may truly be willing to give.

5. Always ask for a check made payable to St. Jude or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Asking for a donation in the form of a check immeasurably adds to our credibility. The giver knows absolutely that his or her money is going directly to St. Jude and not into your pocket, and knowing this, they may give more for the children who depend on all of us.

6. If you have not yet gotten a $25.00, $50.00, $75.00 or $100.00 contribution for St. Jude, when you do, you will be amazed at how good it feels. Each step up is its own special high!

7. DO NOT TAKE REJECTION PERSONALLY!!!! Some people, who would if they could, cannot spare anything, some people are already overtaxed with other charities, and others only care about themselves. It's not you - it's them.

8. Have fun and enjoy the challenge and rewards of doing something worthwhile for others. The children and families thank you in their prayers.
